About the trip

Let’s go back in time and trace back the history behind one of the last two fortresses of Bangkok. Having lasted for over 100 years, the fortress has changed its duty from being the protection of the city to being the reminder for Thais not to forget the history. As a ‘living museum’, the fortress welcomes everyone to come and experience the classic lifestyle. Visit the ancient wooden houses from various ages, and try to mold the statue head of the hermit, the talisman of people in the past. Also, come and watch the process of making the cage for Java Doves from the famous artisans of the fortress.

Main Activities

  • Learn about Bangkok’s first Living Heritage Museum with tours led by guides who were raised up in this very own community of historical wooden houses, just behind the wall.
  • Watch the demonstration of making cages for Java Doves and Bulbul spigots.
  • Try molding the statue head of the hermit.
  • Try to make Mahakan Fortress’ very own patchouli essential oil.
